The City of Northville alone is worth a visit, retaining a small-town atmosphere with stately Victorian-era architecture, and a contemporary, yet historic downtown. Old-fashioned street lamps and benches line the streets, which boast plenty of specialty shops, galleries, theaters, and restaurants. Most of the businesses are locally-owned, making it an ideal backdrop for a fest of this nature.
The Buy Michigan Now Festival will highlight two of the city’s popular traditions, the Summer Friday Night Concerts and First Friday Experience. During the summer, Town Square is the place to be every Friday night as the sounds of a popular area band fill the air. Those evenings are even more vibrant on the first Friday of every month when the city celebrates the arts during their popular First Friday Experience (formerly known as the Art Walk). Guests stroll along the streets of downtown Northville's growing art district and enjoy art exhibits, demonstrations, and related events.
Legend has it that arrivals of fairies from around the world have been noted in the downtown area of Northville. Evidence of their presence can be seen with tiny doorways hidden on the inside and outside of stores on Main, Center, and other mid-town streets. Fairy businesses have been established and as more appear, it is obvious the colony of little beings is growing. Children are encouraged to look closely at each store to see if they can discover its mysterious little fairy door.
Located on the western fringe of the Detroit Metro area, Northville is about 30 minutes from downtown Detroit and 25 minutes from downtown Ann Arbor. The major thoroughfares of I-275 and M-14 are nearby, making access easy.
